The name of Shepherd’s Bush came from the common land where shepherds would rest on their way to Smithfield Market. Shepherd’s Bush Green still remains an open area of land surrounded by trees. But if you are looking for recreation, Shepherd’s Bush can still be a place of relaxation in different ways.

Sports fans will find two tennis courts in Shepherd’s Bush Green; the home of the Queen’s Park Rangers football club is on Loftus Road.

For those interested in shopping, the Westfield London Shopping Centre offers an excellent shopping experience, as it’s the largest in-town shopping centre in Europe.

Take a tour of the BBC complex, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at how television and radio broadcasts are produced.

Other entertainment options include the Bush Theatre, Bush Hall, Shepherds Bush Empire and Shepherds Bush Theatre.

The Bush Theatre, created some 30 years ago, is now known internationally as a showcase of new dramatic writing, with work from both domestic and international playwrights produced and performed.

Bush Hall came into existence in 1905 as a dance hall. It now is a music venue predominately for up-and-coming acoustic performers, but has also hosted larger acts such as R.E.M. and Scissor Sisters.

Shepherds Bush Empire is also a music venue, and has showcased such acts as The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and David Bowie.

Visit the popular Shepherds Bush Walkabout, part of a chain of themed bars which specialize in sports and music from New Zealand and Australia, and provides expatriates from these countries with food and beverages from their homelands. On key national Down Under celebrations, expect the Walkabout to be very busy. Live music includes a mix of local acts, and cover bands who sing Aussie and Kiwi classic hits.

The Riverside
